Jets activate Holmes from PUP list
Florham Park, NJ (Sports Network) - The New York Jets activated Santonio Holmes from the physically unable to perform list on Friday, opening the possibility that the wide receiver could be ready for the early portion of the regular season.
Holmes suffered a season-ending Lisfranc injury to his foot last September against the San Francisco 49ers and has been working his way toward a full recovery ever since.
New York sorely missed Holmes' production last season, as the team went on to finish third worst offensively in the NFL. There is still no specific timetable for his return, but avoiding the PUP list to start the year is a positive sign.
"We're all going to lean on the trainers and doctors, and when they say he's ready to go, he'll be chomping at the bit, I can tell you that right now," Jets coach Rex Ryan said. "He's excited. I think he's in great shape. Hopefully he can get on the field soon."
Since coming over to the Jets in 2010, Holmes has amassed 123 receptions for 1672 yards and 15 touchdowns over 32 games.
In other Jets wide receiver news, Marcus Davis was released on Friday with an injury settlement.
