Final Score: New Orleans 96, Miami 89
Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Top overall draft pick Anthony Davis had a successful final tune-up for the regular season, as he scored 24 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in New Orleans' 96-89 triumph over the defending NBA champion Miami Heat.
Davis shot 11-of-18 from the field. Greivis Vasquez notched 18 points and 10 assists for the Hornets, who split their eight preseason contests. They'll host the San Antonio Spurs Wednesday to open the regular season.
Ryan Anderson had 17 points and Al-Farouq Aminu ended with 13 points and 10 boards.
Chris Bosh totaled 21 points and 10 rebounds for Miami, while reigning MVP LeBron James contributed 19 points and Dwyane Wade scored 15.
The Heat finished the preseason 4-4 and will open regular season play at home Tuesday against the Boston Celtics in an Eastern Conference finals rematch.
Aminu's 3-point play put the Hornets in front at 89-86 with 3:11 remaining. Anderson then canned a jumper and nailed a 3-pointer to extend the lead to 94-86 with 45.4 seconds left.
Hornets rookie guard Austin Rivers sprained his right ankle and was forced out of the game. After the contest, he said via Twitter he should be ready for the start of the regular season.
"Thanks for all the support! Ankle is fine, freaky fall, but I will be alright and ready for the game Wednesday!," Rivers tweeted.
