(Sports Network) - Mexican-born lefty Jorge De La Rosa goes for a seventh win in nine career decisions against San Diego on Wednesday afternoon when the Colorado Rockies host the Padres to close out a three-game series at Coors Field.
The 32-year-old, who'd won just 13 times in 33 starts from 2010-12 after winning 16 games in 2009, picked up his 11th victory of 2013 in his last start on Aug. 9 against Pittsburgh.
De La Rosa held the Pirates to one run on eight hits in five innings of the Rockies' 10-1 triumph and slightly lowered his earned run average from 3.31 to 3.26 in the process.
He upped his career mark against the Padres to 6-2 upon last facing them on July 10, when he allowed two runs on two hits in five innings of a 5-4 victory in San Diego.
In 11 starts this season at Coors Field, he's gone 7-1 with a 2.59 ERA in 62 2/3 innings.
For San Diego, Texas-born righty Andrew Cashner tries to restart a win streak that ended with his last start.
The 26-year-old had beaten Milwaukee, Arizona and the New York Yankees in succession between July 22 and Aug. 2 while allowing eight runs on 14 hits in 19 innings.
He lost the momentum during an Aug. 9 trip to Cincinnati, however, and was battered for five runs on seven hits in five innings of a 7-2 loss.
In eight career meetings with the Rockies - including the July 10 game against De La Rosa - Cashner is 0-2 with an ugly 8.27 ERA in 20 2/3 innings.
On Tuesday, Nick Hundley and Jedd Gyorko homered, and Will Venable went 3- for-5 with two RBI to power the Padres to a 7-5 win.
Alexi Amarista had two hits and drove in a run for the Padres, who had lost five of their previous six games. Eric Stults gave up 11 hits and five runs over 4 2/3 innings in the start for San Diego.
Tim Stauffer (2-1) worked 1 1/3 frames for the win and Huston Street recorded the final four outs for his 23rd save.
Wilin Rosario and Charlie Culberson each had two RBI for the Rockies, who had a four-game winning streak broken. Jeff Manship (0-2), making his second start of the season, yielded eight hits and six runs in five frames.
The Rockies won 10 of the first 13 games with the Padres this season, including two of three in San Diego from July 8-10.
