Final Score: Purdue 38, Michigan 36
Ann Arbor, MI (Sports Network) - Joey Elliott threw for a career-high 367 yards and accounted for three touchdowns, as the Purdue Boilermakers edged the Michigan Wolverines, 38-36, in a Big Ten tilt at Michigan Stadium.
Ralph Bolden carried 16 times for 98 yards and scored three times for the Boilermakers (4-6, 3-3 Big Ten), who pick up their first win in Ann Arbor in 43 years.
After a 4-0 start, the Wolverines (5-5, 1-5) have seen their bowl hopes fade by losing five of the last six. Brandon Minor ran for 154 yards and three TDs, while Roy Roundtree headlined the passing attack with 10 catches for 126 yards and a score.
Purdue found the end zone on the game's fourth play from scrimmage, as Elliott hooked up with Bolden for a 35-yard scoring strike to stake the Boilermakers an early 7-0 lead.
But Michigan answered right back with a seven-play, 81-yard drive, capped by Minor's 29-yard touchdown run.
After the teams traded field goals, Minor struck again for Michigan on the first play of the second quarter, when he broke free for a 55-yard touchdown run to put the Wolverines on top.
Michigan extended its lead to 24-10 on Tate Forcier's 43-yard touchdown pass to Roundtree midway through the second quarter.
The Wolverines fumbled away their opening possession of the second half, and Bolden made them pay with a 19-yard touchdown run to make it a seven-point game.
On Michigan's ensuing possession, Forcier scored on a six-yard run to give the Wolverines a 30-17 lead. Olesnavage's extra-point attempt was no good.
Purdue responded with a 14-play, 91-yard drive that ate up six-and-a-half minutes. Bolden capped that drive with a 10-yard touchdown scamper.
The Boilermakers decided to go for an on-side kick, which they successfully recovered. On the very next play, Elliott hooked up with Cortez Smith for a 54-yard touchdown pass to put the Boilermakers back on top.
The momentum continued in the fourth quarter for Purdue. Elliott capped a 69- yard drive with an eight-yard touchdown scamper to give Purdue a 38-30 lead with 10:28 to play.
Michigan made it a 38-36 game on Minor's one-yard touchdown plunge with 2:10 to play, but the two-point attempt was unsuccessful.
The win snapped an 11-game road losing streak for Purdue.
