NCAA Game Summary - Michigan State at Notre Dame

Final Score: Notre Dame 33, Michigan State 30
South Bend, IN (Sports Network) - Jimmy Clausen threw for 300 yards and two touchdowns as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish grabbed a 33-30 victory the Michigan State Spartans in South Bend.
It was the first time since 1993 that Notre Dame defeated the Spartans at Notre Dame Stadium.
Armando Allen led the rushing attack for Notre Dame (2-1) as the tailback finished with 115 yards and one touchdown on 23 carries. Golden Tate was outstanding in the win, hauling in seven passes for 127 yards and one touchdown.
Kirk Cousins led the way for Michigan State (1-2), as the signal caller threw for 302 yards and one score on 23-of-35 passing. Larry Caper only rushed for 51 yards in the setback, but did score two touchdowns.
A 13-yard touchdown run by Allen gave Notre Dame an early 7-0 advantage.
However, the Spartans responded on their next drive with a 43-yard field goal by Brett Swenson.
The Fighting Irish wasted little time extending their lead, as Clausen connected with Michael Floyd for a 22-yard score, but a missed extra point left Notre Dame with a 13-3 advantage.
Michigan State cut their deficit to 13-10 when Keshawn Martin connected with Blair White for a 30-yard scoring strike early in the second quarter.
After a 22-yard field goal by Nick Tausch put the Irish up 16-10, the Spartans responded with a one-yard touchdown run by Caper and went into halftime with a 17-16 advantage.
Unfortunately Michigan State's lead did not last long, as Notre Dame posted 10 straight points to open the third quarter.
Early in the period Allen connected with Robby Parris on a halfback pass for a five-yard score, and that was followed by a 46-yard field goal by Tausch.
However, the Spartans remained in striking distance thanks to a seven-yard touchdown run by Caper late in the third quarter.
Michigan State took a 30-26 lead early in the final stanza when Cousins connected with White for a 17-yard score.
With just over five minutes remaining in regulation Clausen hit Tate for a 33- yard touchdown pass, giving the Irish a 33-30 lead, which would eventually be the final score.
