GAME NOTES: The Morehead State Eagles seek a third straight win today, as they confront the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs as part of the Las Vegas Invitational at Orleans Arena.

On Thursday, the Eagles registered an impressive 88-75 victory over Chattanooga in a contest that saw exceptional shooting by Morehead State. The win was the fourth in the last five outings for the program, the lone setback coming against nationally-ranked UCLA as part of this tourney in Los Angeles a week ago.

As for the Bulldogs, they managed to snap a two-game slide on Thanksgiving by taking down IUPUI in a 61-54 final. Gardner-Webb had bowed to both Missouri and Northwestern as part of this event.

While shooting 51.7 percent from the floor in the first half, the Bulldogs also limited IUPUI to a mere eight field goals, allowing GW to hold a double- digit lead at the break. In the second half the Bulldogs were the ones with only eight baskets, but the team made that stand up for the seven-point victory. Naji Hibbert posted 15 points for the Bulldogs, followed by Donta Harper with 14, while Mike Byron came up a point shy of a double-double as he cleared 11 rebounds.

Hibbert leads the team in scoring with his 14.0 ppg, although Harper is close behind with 13.3 ppg, even though the latter is shooting a disappointing 35.4 percent from the floor in his four appearances. Jerome Hill (11.0 ppg) is hitting the glass for 6.5 rpg, but the team is being beaten in that department by more than five per game at the moment.

The Eagles allowed Chattanooga to experience a bit of false hope early in the contest on Thursday as the Mocs took a brief first-half lead, but MSU ended up shooting 62.5 percent from the floor in the period and then lit up the scoreboard with an unfathomable 19-of-23 (.826) shooting in the final 20 minutes, cruising to the 13-point win.

Angelo Warner missed only two of his 12 field goals as he finished with 22 points, followed by reserve Billy Reader with 21 points and eight boards. Kareem Storey produced 16 points and Chad Posthumus 11 points and seven boards as the team finished the day with an outstanding 72.3 percent from the floor.

The shooting performance was the best for the Eagles since 2002 when the team knocked down an incredible 74 percent in a single game to set the school record.

Warner leads the team in scoring overall at the moment with his 16.8 ppg, while Brent Arrington checks in with 11.4 ppg, thanks to his team-best 16 3- pointers. Posthumus continues to average a double-double with 11.4 ppg and a team-best 12.5 rpg, but the fact that he doesn't even have a single assist, against 19 turnovers, has to be a concern.

The Eagles continue to enjoy their best November in more than eight decades and while there is bound to be a let down following yesterday's incredible shooting performance, the team should still end up in the win column yet again.
