GAME NOTES: The South Dakota Coyotes look to extend a three-game win streak and improve upon their 1-0 conference record as they host the IUPUI Jaguars in Summit League action at the DakotaDome.

IUPUI, at 5-14 overall, is on a two-game losing streak, and has lost seven of its last eight games spanning back to mid-December. The two most recent games the Jaguars have lost were to Summit League opponents at home, dropping their conference record to 0-2. IUPUI lost to North Dakota State, 87-64, on Saturday.

South Dakota improved to 3-0 in its last three games and 1-0 in the Summit League with a 59-54 victory over Denver Saturday. The Coyotes, prior to their three-game win streak, had lost six in a row and only recorded one win in the month of December.

The Coyotes hold the all-time series lead with IUPUI, 3-1. The two programs will meet again on Feb. 15.

IUPUI allowed five North Dakota State players to record point totals in double digits Saturday, and allowed the Bison to hit 51 percent of their shots from the floor in the loss. The Jaguars were led by Marcellus Barksdale and Donovan Gibbs, who each netted 14 points in the losing effort. Barksdale turned the ball over five times and missed both of his 3-point field goal attempts. Mitch Patton contributed 11 points and six rebounds.

Ian Chiles, who scored eight points in the loss to North Dakota State, leads IUPUI in scoring this season with 17.1 ppg and is tied for the team lead in steals with 20. Patton is second in scoring with 12.1 ppg on 46.8 percent shooting from the floor. Patton is second to Barksdale on the Jaguars in rebounding with 6.2 rpg. Barksdale grabs 7.1 rpg this season.

South Dakota held Denver to 23 second-half points in the contest on 26 percent shooting from the floor, stealing a defensive battle in Vermillion. Center Trevor Gruis scored 19 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field, pulling down a team-high 10 rebounds for the double-double. Brandon Bos chipped in 15 points in 29 minutes of action. The Coyotes shot an impressive 56.8 percent from the floor versus Denver.

Bos paces the Coyotes this season in scoring with 13.1 ppg, while Gruis is second at 12.5 ppg. Gruis leads the South Dakota squad in rebounding with a 6.7 rpg mark, and is second in shots blocked with 20 on the year. His 58.7 shooting percentage from the floor is best on the team. South Dakota averages 71.1 ppg on 44.1 percent shooting this season.

The Coyotes are on fire just as conference play is kicking into full force. Against IUPUI, which has already dug a hole for itself in the conference standings at 0-2, South Dakota shouldn't have much trouble scoring.

Sports Network Predicted Outcome: South Dakota 71, IUPUI 63
