GAME NOTES: With seven wins in their last eight games, the Saint Joseph's Hawks are surging. They take a break from their Atlantic 10 Conference slate to take on the Penn Quakers in a Big 5 city series matchup from the famed Palestra.

The Hawks posted an 84-75 win over Duquesne on Wednesday. Langston Galloway scored a game-high 26 points, while Chris Wilson tallied 16 points and eight assists. Phil Martelli's team shot a scorching 64.6 percent from the field.

Saint Joseph's could get back a couple of key players for this game. Senior forward Ronald Roberts Jr., who has missed the previous two games due to back spasms, is averaging 14.6 ppg and 7.4 rpg. Forward Isaiah Miles has sat out the last three contests due to a concussion.

Galloway (17.8 ppg) needs nine 3-point field goals to become the all-time leader for the Hawks. When he accomplishes the feat this season, he'll surpass Pat Carroll (2001-05), who had 294 treys. DeAndre' Bembry (11.1 ppg), Halil Kanacevic (10.5 ppg, 7.9 rpg) and Wilson (9.8 ppg) are all part of a starting lineup for a team that is shooting just 64.8 percent from the foul line.

Saint Joseph's is 0-2 in the Big 5 this season with losses to Temple and Villanova. Penn has lost all three of its Philadelphia city series contests falling to Temple, Villanova and La Salle. Since the start of last season, Penn has gone 0-7 in Big 5 games.

The Quakers earned a 77-74 home win over Ivy League rival Princeton a week ago. Miles Jackson-Carwright's two free-throws with five seconds remaining proved to be the difference. Tony Hicks led Penn with 18 points, while Darien Nelson-Henry and Fran Dougherty each scored 17. Dougherty collected 12 rebounds as well for the Quakers, who ended a seven-game losing streak.

Hicks (15.0 ppg) has led Penn in scoring in each of the last three games, while Dougherty (12.4 ppg) has paced the Quakers in rebounding over the same stretch. Cartwright (11.3 ppg) and Nelson-Henry (13.2 ppg, 7.4 rpg) are included in the starting lineup.

The Hawks have won six of the last eight matchups between these two, and they seem too strong for a struggling Penn team today, but the magic of the Palestra has produced some tight finishes in the past, although not so much in this series. Last year, the Hawks won by 20 points. Aside from an 84-80 Penn win on Jan. 21, 2012, each matchup between the teams dating back to Jan. 27, 2007 has produced a double-digit margin of victory. Saint Joseph's has scored 79 or more points against Penn in six of the last seven meetings. A positive result would give Martelli the 350th career win of his 19-year career.
