Fort Wayne, IN (SportsNetwork.com) - Luis Jacobo scored 20 points as the IUPU- Fort Wayne Mastodons defeated the North Dakota State Bison, 82-71, in a Summit League tilt at Gates Sports Center.

Steve Forbes scored 14 points for IPFW (13-5, 1-0 Summit). Joe Edwards and Pierre Bland scored 12 points apiece with Bland pulling in six rebounds and four steals. The Mastodons have now won eight of their last nine contests.

Marshall Bjorklund led the Bison (11-5, 0-1) with 19 points. Taylor Braun scored 16 points while TrayVonn Wright chipped in 15 with three blocks. The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for the Bison.

IPFW made 50 percent of its shots from the floor, including 6-of-10 from 3- point range in the first period and took a 38-31 lead into the intermission. The Bison connected on 52 percent of their shots from the floor and 2-of-8 from beyond the arc. The Mastodons attempted seven more shots in the stanza.

The Mastodons made 55 percent of their shots from the field in the second half, which was enough to hold on for the win. The Bison made 50 percent of their field goal tries on 12 more field goal attempts, but were unable to close the gap due to a 20-6 deficit from the free-throw line.

The bench for IPFW outscored North Dakota State's reserves, 29-5. The Mastodons converted on North Dakota State's miscues by outscoring them, 24-10, in points off turnovers.
