VCU controlled the second half, when it connected on 40 percent from the floor, including 5-of-11 from 3-point range, and limited the Spiders to 25 percent shooting. The key stretch came midway through the period when the Rams ripped off an 18-3 run to turn an 11-point deficit into a four-point lead, one they would never relinquish.

Despite the tight final score, the game featured only two ties and a single lead change.
