Nashville, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - JJ Mann poured in 34 points as the Belmont
Bruins outlasted the Eastern Kentucky Colonels 84-81 in an Ohio Valley
Conference bout at Curb Event Center.
Craig Bradshaw added 21 points for Belmont (16-7, 6-1 OVC), which has won four
straight. Reece Chamberlain logged 14 points and seven assists, but also had
Glenn Cosey was the high scorer for Eastern Kentucky (14-6, 5-3) with 24
points. Corey Walden contributed 19 points and Eric Stutz finished with a
double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Belmont led by a 50-30 margin at halftime. The Bruins sank 56.7 percent from
the floor, including 8-of-18 from beyond the arc, in the opening period.
Eastern Kentucky could not keep up, shooting 37.5 percent in the frame.
After the break the Colonels improved to 48.5 percent shooting, but, even with
the Bruins sinking to 45 percent shooting, their comeback attempt fell short,
with Belmont also getting 15-of-18 from the free-throw line to fall.
Belmont had a 17-12 scoring edge off of turnovers, despite committing three
more than Eastern Kentucky (17-14).
