NCAA Game Summary - Austin Peay at Arkansas State

(Sunday, December 16)

Final Score: Arkansas State 69, Austin Peay 57

Jonesboro, AR (Sports Network) - Trey Finn and Ed Townsel both scored 15 points as the Arkansas State Red Wolves captured a 69-57 win over the Austin Peay Governors in non-conference action at the Convocation Center.

Also scoring in double figures for the Red Wolves (6-3), as the logged their second win in as many tries, were Raeford Worsham and Brandon Peterson with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

The Governors (4-6) were paced by Travis Betran who tallied a game-high 21 points in 39 minutes of action. Anthony Campbell contributed 14 points and Chris Horton filled out his stat line with 10 points, a game-high 13 rebounds, four blocked shots and three steals but still the team suffered a second straight setback.

The teams traded leads seven times in the first half, but thanks to a late three-pointer by Betran it was APSU that moved out to a 29-24 advantage at the break. The Red Wolves were rather lucky to still be within striking distance, considering the squad missed all eight chances behind the three-point line and shot only 33.3 percent from the floor overall through the first 20 minutes of action.

Midway through the second half, after the teams were locked up at 42-42, Arkansas State put together an 11-3 run to take command and eventually cruise to the double-digit victory.

The Red Wolves finished the meeting shooting just 5-of-20 beyond the arc and 14-of-25 at the free-throw line, but by forcing the Govs into 28 turnovers those poor efforts didn't keep ASU out of the win column.
