Florida State knocks Stony Brook out of CWS

Omaha, NE (Sports Network) - Devon Travis went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run and three RBI, and Justin Gonzalez cracked a three-run homer on Sunday as Florida State crushed Stony Brook, 12-2 in College World Series action at TD Ameritrade Park.

James Ramsey went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, while Sherman Johnson added two hits, two runs scored and pair of RBI for the Seminoles, who will play the loser of Sunday's nightcap between UCLA and Arizona on June 19.

Mike Compton allowed two runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts to earn the win. Brandon Johnson, Bryant Holtmann and Mack Waugh each tossed a scoreless inning in relief to close out the win for Florida State.

William Carmona went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and Pat Cantwell added an RBI base hit for Stony Brook, whose season is over after suffering their second loss. They previously fell to UCLA, 9-1, on Friday.

Brandon McNitt got the start for the Seawolves and allowed nine runs -- four earned -- on six hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings.

Florida State got on the board with a run in its first at-bat and never looked back. Travis drew a one-out walk, moved to third on a base hit by Ramsey and scored on a fielder's choice to put the Seminoles up for good.

They tacked on six more runs in the third to blow the game open. Johnson started the rally with a two-out single and Travis followed with a base hit of his own to put runners on the corners. Ramsey then doubled to bring home Johnson and Jayce Boyd reached on a throwing error by Stony Brook shortstop Cole Peragine which allowed two more runs to score.

Stephen McGee worked a walk to put two runners on and Gonzalez belted a home run over the wall in left to cap the scoring in the inning, making it 7-0.

Travis ripped a two-run shot in the fourth to extend the Seminoles lead to 9-0.

Stony Brook got on the board in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Cantwell and an RBI base hit by Carmona, but Florida State added three more runs in the sixth courtesy of a two-run double by Johnson and an RBI double off the bat of Travis to account for the final margin.
