Final Score: Chivas USA 2, Portland 1
Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Chivas USA is perfect on the road. Now it just has to figure out how to win at home in Major League Soccer.
Alejandro Moreno and Nick LaBrocca scored in the second half as Chivas USA won 2-1 over the Portland Timbers on Saturday at Jeld-Wen Field for its first-ever two-game road win streak to open a season.
Chivas (2-3-0) has lost all three home games this season, but has wins at Real Salt Lake and Portland. With the win, Chivas left the Los Angeles Galaxy alone at the bottom of the Western Conference on three points.
Portland (1-3-1) lost its second straight at home, and blew a second-half lead for the second straight game as well. Real Salt Lake scored twice in the final minutes last week for a 3-2 win in Portland.
The Timbers took the lead after just 16 minutes as they looked to bounce back. A collision between Chivas USA goalkeeper Dan Kennedy and defender James Riley gifted Kris Boyd an easy finish into an empty net from the middle of the area.
Boyd's second goal this season gave Portland its first lead in the first half, but Chivas - which has not scored in three home games - responded after half.
Moreno pulled the first goal back 3 minutes after half when he headed a Smith pass into the lower-left corner from close range for his first goal this year.
Chivas followed with the match-winner with 8 minutes remaining in normal time, this time off a Smith cross from the left wing that found LaBrocca in the box. LaBrocca headed to the bottom left as well, sealing three road points.
Coach Robin Fraser will take Chivas USA to Toronto FC on April 14 for its next game. Portland will try to get back on track April 14 at Los Angeles in a game featuring the bottom two sides in the West.
