Albany's Ford to retire after 2013 season
Albany, NY (Sports Network) - University at Albany's legendary football coach Bob Ford will retire following the 2013 season.
Ford, 75, is the oldest head coach in the FCS. He has led the Albany program since it was reinstated in 1970, compiling a 255-159 varsity record with nine more wins on the club level.
He is expected to announce his intention to retire Tuesday afternoon at the team's annual preseason media day.
"Well, I think my goals have never changed since I got into this business," Ford said last October. "I went to a school called Springfield College and they really emphasized the human being-aspect of things. I've always felt that my No. 1 goal was to try to turn out what I call good human beings.
Ford's final season will be Albany's first in the CAA Football, one of the top conferences in the FCS. The Great Danes also will debut their new Bob Ford Field with five home games this season.
Albany will kick off its season Aug. 31 at Duquesne. The Great Danes' final regular-season game will be on the road against Stony Brook on Nov. 23.
The news of Ford's retirement was first reported by WNYT.
