(Tuesday, October 16th) Final Score: North Texas 30, Louisiana-Lafayette 23 Denton, TX (Sports Network) - Antoinne Jimmerson's go-ahead 78-yard touchdown reception with 1:54 left lifted North Texas to a 30-23 win over Louisiana- Lafayette on Tuesday. After Brett Baer tied the contest at 23-23 following his 47-yard field goal with 3:01 to go, Jimmerson took a screen pass down the right sideline for the score just three plays into the Mean Green's ensuing series. Effrem Reed fumbled following a 7-yard completion on the first play of the Ragin' Cajuns' next touch to seal the outcome. Derek Thompson was 17-of-28 for 282 yards and two touchdowns, Brandin Byrd carried the ball 22 times for 88 yards and Jimmerson had two catches -- both for scores -- for 106 yards for North Texas (3-4, 2-1 Sun Belt), which had lost three of its previous four games coming in. Terrance Broadway threw for 265 yards on 26-of-41 efficiency with a touchdown and an interception, and added 84 yards and a score on five carries for the Ragin' Cajuns (4-2, 2-1), who had their brief two-game winning streak snapped. Reed's 1-yard TD plunge got Louisiana-Lafayette on the board -- although Baer missed the extra point -- before Zach Olen's 25-yard field goal cut the deficit to 6-3 midway through the second quarter. Broadway's 75-yard TD run and his 10-yard TD pass to Harry Peoples were sandwiched around a 24-yard Olen field goal, which made it 20-6 early in the third. North Texas, though, tallied 17 straight points. Thompson found Jimmerson for a 28-yard score, Brelan Chancellor scampered for a 34-yard TD run and Olen nailed a go-ahead 22-yard field goal early in the fourth to make it 23-20. 10/17 00:47:16 ET Powered by The Sports Network. |
