Watson to miss Senior PGA
Benton Harbor, MI (Sports Network) - Tom Watson will not be able to defend his title at the Senior PGA Championship next weekend due to a wrist injury.
Watson officially withdrew from the event on Saturday.
Last year, Watson birdied the first playoff hole to defeat David Eger and win the Senior PGA for the second time. Watson also won the crown in 2001.
Watson has played in just three events all year due to a pinched nerve in his wrist. He finished seventh at the season-opening Mitsubishi Electric Championship in late January.
His next appearance was at the Masters, where he missed the cut by two strokes. Watson carded a six-over 77 in the opening round of the Encompass Insurance Pro-Am, the week after the Masters. He then withdrew from that tournament and hasn't played since.
The Senior PGA Championship tees off Thursday at The Golf Club at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor, Michigan.
