Sullivan, Sheftic share lead at PGA Professional

Sunriver, OR (Sports Network) - Mark Sheftic birdied his final two holes on Tuesday to close out a 1-under 71 and grab a share of the lead of the 46th PGA Professional National Championship.

Chip Sullivan also shot a 71 during the third round at the Sunriver Resort's Crosswater Course to meet Sheftic at 8-under-par 207.

Second-round leader Rod Perry tripped to a 1-over 73 to fall into sole possession of third place at 7-under, while Ryan Polzin posted at 2-under 70 to jump into fourth at minus-6.

Three-time champion Mike Small (72), Corey Prugh (74) and Jeff Sorenson (73) shared fifth at 4-under 211.

Sullivan started the day a stroke behind Perry and opened his bogey-free round with 15 straight pars before he rolled in his lone birdie of the day at the 16th. He closed with a pair of pars to end at 8-under.

Sheftic, who works at Merion which just hosted the U.S. Open, made the turn at even par for the day after trading a bogey at the fifth with a birdie at the seventh.

He then posted bogeys at the 10th and 12th around a birdie at the 11th to drop to 1-over, but after countering a birdie at the 15th with a bogey at the 16th to stay there, he poured in back-to-back birdies at the 17th and 18th to grab a share of the lead.
