Wilson enjoys dream debut as United downs Hull

Manchester, England (SportsNetwork.com) - James Wilson enjoyed a dream debut for Manchester United, scoring twice to lead his side to a 3-1 defeat of Hull City at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

With little on the line for United, the 18-year-old started the match in place of Robin van Persie but managed to justify his spot by opening the scoring in the 31st minute.

A free kick was delivered to the back post where Marouane Fellaini was waiting to head the ball back in front of goal. Wilson was first to react, pouncing on the bouncing ball to stuff a first-time shot past Eldin Jakupovic.

Fellaini should have doubled United's advantage at the hour mark when he took a pass from Adnan Januzaj and fired a shot on target. The effort was parried away by Jakupovic, but Wilson was in place to turn in the rebound.

Hull managed to pull one back just two minutes later thanks to Matty Fryatt's superb strike from distance, but the Red Devils restored their two-goal advantage in the 86th minute when van Persie collected a pass from Ryan Giggs. The Dutchman's initial shot was blocked, but he fired home with a second bite of the cherry.

The match marked Nemanja Vidic's final home game for Manchester United. The Serbia international, who enjoyed eight years at Old Trafford, will join Inter Milan in the summer.

It also may have been Giggs' final home match for the club. The legendary winger's future at United remains uncertain as he currently serves as both a player and interim manager.
