Lazio's Mauri faces six-month ban for match fixing
Rome, Italy (Sports Network) - Lazio captain Stefano Mauri has been convicted of match fixing and handed a six-month suspension, pending appeal.
Lazio has also been fined $50,000 for its involvement in fixing two games during the 2010-11 season, however the club will not be docked any points.
The two games took place in May 2011 against Genoa and Lecce, with Genoa being cleared of all charges while Lecce received a $30,000 fine.
Lazio has already requested a date for an appeal, which is expected to be heard only two days before the team takes part in the Italian Supercoppa.
The 33-year-old Mauri was initially facing a ban of over four years with Lazio expected to be docked six points.
But both punishments were reduced when it was discovered that Mauri was not directly involved in fixing the games, merely failing to report to the authorities that he was aware of the attempt to influence the outcome.
