NFL Preseason Preview - Washington (3-0) at Tampa Bay (1-2)
By John McMullen, NFL Editor
(Sports Network) - The Washington Redskins will play their final preseason contest of 2013 on Thursday as the team takes to the road to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Raymond James Stadium.
The Redskins are 3-0 in the preseason for the first time since 2008, and with a win against the Bucs, the Redskins can secure their first undefeated preseason since going 4-0 in 1985.
Washington has won five straight preseason games overall dating back to the 2012 preseason, marking the Redskins' first five-game exhibition winning streak since winning five consecutive across the 1988-89 preseasons.
The Redskins were statistically dominant in last Saturday's 30-7 win against the Buffalo Bills.
Washington outgained the Bills, 452-155, a margin of 297 yards. The 'Skins also rushed for 208 yards against Buffalo, picking up where the team left off in 2012 as the NFL leader in rushing yardage (2,709).
With Robert Griffin III and Kirk Cousins both unable to play Rex Grossman started at quarterback and tossed for 171 yards.
Grossman completed 11-of-21 passes and found Pierre Garcon in the first quarter for a 7-yard touchdown pass. Pat White also had success commanding the Washington offense, running for 26 yards and a score while hurling 96 yards on 7-for-14.
Grossman and White are likely battling for one roster spot behind second-year quarterbacks, RG3 and Cousins.
The Bucs, meanwhile, earned their first preseason win last week, winning a Sunshine State battle with the Miami Dolphins when David Douglas' touchdown catch with 1:03 to play lifted Tampa Bay to a 17-16 win.
Josh Freeman finished 6-for-16 for 59 yards in the start, while rookie backup Mike Glennon tossed the winning score for the Buccaneers. Brian Leonard had 10 carries for 38 yards and a touchdown.
The Redskins have beaten Tampa Bay seven of 12 times in the preseason.
