Spady named head football coach at Alabama A&M

Huntsville, AL (SportsNetwork.com) - Alabama A&M named former Nevada assistant coach James Michael Spady as its new head football coach on Monday.

Spady, who recently finished his fourth season as the tight ends and co- offensive line coach at Nevada, will be introduced at a news conference on Friday.

He replaces Anthony Jones, whose contract was not renewed after 12 seasons. Jones was 83-57 at A&M, including 4-8 overall and 4-5 in the Southwestern Athletic Conference this season.

Spady began coaching in 1995 at his alma mater, UTEP, and served as Grambling State's offensive coordinator from 2007-2009. He also had coaching stints at North Carolina Central and South Carolina State. In 2008, the NCAA selected Spady to participate in the Expert Football Coaches Academy.

"I am excited that Coach Spady has accepted our offer to join the Bulldog family," A&M athletic director Bryan Hicks said. "He represents another giant step on our journey toward excellence in athletics."
