Central Arkansas tabs Campbell as new head coach

Conway, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College coach Steve Campbell has resigned and agreed to take the vacant head coaching position at Central Arkansas, multiple reports have confirmed.

Campbell, 47, will replace Clint Conque, who resigned following the 2013 season to become the new coach at Stephen F. Austin.

Campbell had been the head coach at Mississippi Gulf Coast since 2004, and compiled a record of 87-22. His Bulldogs won six Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) South Division championships, three state titles and a share of the 2007 NJCAA championship.

"Central Arkansas is a great school in a great community with great leadership," Campbell said. "It's a really nice town and they're used to competing for championships."

Before coaching at Gulf Coast, Campbell spent time as the head coach of Delta State, offensive coordinator at Middle Tennessee State and offensive line coach at Mississippi State.

Conque's Bears finished the season 7-5 overall with a 4-3 mark in the Southland Conference. Conque led Central Arkansas to three Southland titles in his 14 seasons with the team.
