Orioles minor leaguer Tillman tosses no-hitter Lawrenceville, GA (Sports Network) - Orioles minor leaguer Chris Tillman tossed a no-hitter for Norfolk Wednesday night in a 6-0 Triple-A win over the Gwinnett Braves. Tillman walked one batter and had six strikeouts, throwing 63 of his 105 pitches for strikes. It's the first no-hitter in the minors this season. The 22-year-old right-hander, who was drafted by Seattle in the second round in 2006, retired the first 12 batters he faced before Brent Clevlen walked in the fifth. Mitch Jones then grounded into a double play. Joe Thurston then reached first on a fielding error by first baseman Michael Aubrey, but Tillman fanned Wes Timmons. Tillman was on the rest of the night and he completed Norfolk's first nine- inning no-hitter since 1992 when Matt Young grounded out to shortstop Robert Andino to end the game. In 2009, Tillman made 12 starts for the Baltimore Orioles and went 2-5 with a 5.40 ERA. He is 2-3 with a 4.05 ERA for Norfolk this season. 04/29 00:25:50 ET Powered by The Sports Network. |
