Heffernan leads suspended Seaforth Country Classic
Seaforth, ON (Sports Network) - Wes Heffernan was four-under through 12 holes on Saturday to move in front at the suspended Seaforth Country Classic.
Play was halted shortly before 4 p.m. (et) due to inclement weather and never re-started, finally forcing officials to suspend play until 8 a.m. on Sunday.
Once the third-round finishes -- there are eight groups left -- final round tee times will begin at 10 a.m. from the first and 10th tees.
When it picks up, Heffernan will have six more holes to pad his lead. He's no stranger to winning on the Canadian Tour, having four previous titles, but none since 2008. He is currently 14-under-par, which is one stroke better than four players.
Brad Fritsch and Ryan Williams both played beautifully on Saturday and finished rounds of eight-under 62. The pair share the clubhouse lead at 13- under 197, while Darren Griff and Brian Unk are both at minus-13 with six holes left to play.
"My goal today was to get to what the leaders were at yesterday," said Fritsch. "I hit the ball so much better today and made the putts when I needed to."
Second-round leader Michael Gligic is even-par through 12 holes in his third round and is at 12-under, while Garrett Frank (64) shares seventh at 11-under. Hugo Leon, Sean Shahi, Dustin Risdon and Liam Kendregan are all at that mark as well with their third rounds not yet completed.
Heffernan got off to a quick start with an eagle at No. 2 to move to 12-under, and three birdies in a four-hole stretch from the fourth got him to 15-under before a bogey at the ninth.
He parred his last three holes before the rains came.
NOTES: Heffernan has yet to finish better than 36th in any of his six events played this year...Fritsch and Williams are both searching for their first professional wins.
