NCAA Game Summary - Cal State Northridge at Long Beach State

Long Beach, CA ( - Mike Caffey finished with 23 points to lead the Long Beach State 49ers to a 76-62 victory over the Cal State Northridge Matadors in a Big West Conference bout at Walter Pyramid.

For the 49ers (7-12, 3-2 Big West), Dan Jennings posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, while Tyler Lamb finished with 10 points.

Stephen Hicks scored 17 points to lead the Matadors (10-11, 2-4), losers of four straight, while Stephen Maxwell added 14 points and Landon Drew chipped in with 10 points.

Long Beach State shot 47.2 percent from the field to start the game, but struggled from deep, making only 2-of-11 from beyond the arc. The 49ers went into halftime with a 39-36 lead. Northridge shot a similar 47.1 percent and it also couldn't hit the long ball, missing all but one of its six 3-point tries in the opening stanza.

Trailing by one, 55-54, with under 11 minutes to play, the 49ers used a 14-2 run to take the lead for good and pull away for the victory.

The 49ers had the advantage down low, outscoring the Matadors 48-30 in the paint. Long Beach State was able to force 15 turnovers and convert them into 21 points.
