NCAA Game Summary - Purdue at Michigan

Ann Arbor, MI (Sports Network) - Terone Johnson poured in a career-high 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting as Purdue knocked off No. 11 Michigan, 75-61, at Crisler Center on Saturday.

Robbie Hummel dropped in 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds, and Lewis Jackson added nine points and five assists for the Boilermakers (19-10, 9-7 Big Ten), who have won four of their last five contests.

Zack Novak and Trey Burke paced the Wolverines (21-8, 11-5) with 12 points apiece, while Tim Hardaway Jr. donated 10 points and grabbed six boards. Jordan Morgan added eight points and six rebounds for Michigan, which suffered its first home loss of the season.

With the game tied at 42 and 11:26 to play in the contest, the Boilermakers took control, using a 19-9 run to jump out to a 61-51 lead with 3:33 remaining.

Hummel, who capped the flurry with a trey, netted eight points during the run.

Novak drained a three-pointer following a Michigan timeout, but Purdue answered with a jumper by Jackson followed by a three-point play from Johnson to give the Boilermakers a 66-54 lead with two minutes to play.

Hummel, Jackson and Anthony Johnson all made free throws down the stretch and Neal Beshears finished off Michigan with a jumper from the right corner with 32 seconds left to cap the victory.

Purdue opened the game with a 12-2 run, but Michigan responded with seven consecutive points, capped by a Stu Douglass jumper, to pull within 12-9 with just under 13 minutes to play in the first half.

The Boilermakers then went on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 19-9, but Michigan answered with a 9-3 run to cut the deficit to four, 22-18, with 8 1/2 minutes to go in the opening 20 minutes.

Hardaway sank a jumper and Matt Vogrich followed with a three-pointer to get the Wolverines within four again, but Terone Johnson put in a layup and Anthony Johnson made 1-of-2 from the line to push the lead back to 30-23.

Purdue led 32-28 heading into the break.

Terone Johnson netted two jumpers early in the second half to put Purdue up 38-30, but back-to-back treys from Novak and Burke pulled the Wolverines within 38-36.

Morgan put home a layup to give Michigan a 42-40 lead, but Travis Carroll answered with a layup at the other end to tie it at 42.

"They deserved it," Michigan head coach John Beilein said. "They spread us out beautifully, did what they do, and really deserved the win."

Game Notes

Purdue leads the all-time series between the teams, 83-63...Purdue shot 50 percent from the floor and 7-of-15 from beyond the arc, while Michigan shot 41.7 percent from the field and 9-of-32 from three-point range...Both teams took good care of the ball, as the Wolverines turned it over nine times and Purdue just five...After getting just four free throw attempts in the first half, the Boilermakers went 11-of-12 from the line in the second half.
