NCAA Game Summary - Michigan State at Michigan

(Saturday, March 5th)

Final Score: Michigan 70, Michigan State 63

Ann Arbor, MI (Sports Network) - Tim Hardaway, Jr. erupted for 20 points to help lift the Michigan Wolverines to a 70-63 win over rival Michigan State in Big Ten action at Crisler Arena.

Evan Smotrycz chipped in with 14 points off the bench to help Michigan (19-12, 9-9 Big Ten) sweep the season series. Darius Morris added 13 points and Jordan Morgan scored 10 for the Wolverines, who closed out the regular season by winning eight of their final 11 games.

The Spartans (17-13, 9-9) entered the game on the NCAA Tournament bubble and will likely need a strong showing in the Big Ten Tournament to impress the selection committee enough for a bid to the Big Dance. Kalin Lucas led all scorers with 25 points in the loss. Durrell Summers posted a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds, while Keith Appling finished with 10 points.

The Wolverines led from start to finish, and they jumped out to a 33-25 halftime lead after holding MSU to 8-of-26 (30.8 percent) shooting from the floor in the opening frame.

Hardaway scored all of his 20 points after halftime, as he provided a huge spark for the Wolverines down the stretch. MSU cut a 14-point deficit down to two but could not draw any closer.

The Spartans held a 46-30 rebounding advantage for the game, however they shot just 32.8 percent from the floor.
