By Lyle Fitzsimmons, Contributing Editor
Cape Coral, FL - Former U.S. Olympian Andre Ward makes the first top-five appearance of his career in the October pound-for-pound boxing rankings released by SportsNetwork.com.
The 28-year-old Ward is fourth on the list, trailing only Floyd Mayweather Jr., Sergio Martinez and Wladimir Klitschko, who have held world titles in eight weight classes and have a combined career record of 151-5-2 with 104 knockouts.
Former No. 1 Manny Pacquiao, who lost his WBO 147-pound title to Timothy Bradley
A gold medalist in Athens, Greece, in 2004, Ward scored his most significant pro win on Sept. 8 in Oakland, Calif., when he stopped Chad Dawson at 2:45 of the 10th round to defend his WBA and WBC championships at 168 pounds.
