Bale scores in debut but Madrid held by Villarreal

Villarreal, Spain (Sports Network) - Gareth Bale scored 38 minutes into his Real Madrid debut, but Villarreal got a goal from Giovani Dos Santos 20 minutes from time to claim a 2-2 draw at El Madrigal.

Cani put the Yellow Submarine in front after 21 minutes, but Bale made his impact felt in the 38th with his first Madrid goal following his record transfer from Tottenham.

Daniel Carvajal got down the right wing and drove a low ball to the front of goal for Bale, who slid in to finish off the play from six yards.

Cristiano Ronaldo put Madrid ahead in the 64th with a bit of good fortune as his shot was deflected back off his own leg and beat scrambling goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.

However, the lead lasted only six minutes as Dos Santos had Villarreal on level terms after Cani's shot was parried by goalkeeper Diego Lopez, allowing Dos Santos to score on the rebound.

Barcelona 3, Sevilla 2

Barcelona, Spain - Barcelona's perfect record remained intact, but just barely as Alexis Sanchez scored in stoppage time to lift Barca to a 3-2 win over Sevilla at the Camp Nou on Saturday.

A first-half goal from Dani Alves gave the Catalan side a 1-0 halftime lead, and Lionel Messi doubled the advantage 15 minutes from time, seemingly putting the hosts on their way to another three points.

But Sevilla pulled a goal back in the 80th minute when Vitolo cut in from the left wing and set up a shot for Ivan Rakitic that managed to elude Barca goalkeeper Victor Valdes.

Coke Andujar volleyed home an unlikely equalizer in the 90th minute from a corner kick, but the hosts snatched a dramatic win when Messi's cross was parried by goalkeeper Beto, allowing Sanchez to pounce and knock home the winning goal.

Atletico Madrid 4, Almeria 2

Madrid, Spain - Atletico Madrid maintained its perfect start in La Liga on Saturday with a comfortable 4-2 home win over Almeria.

First-half goals from David Villa and Diego Costa put Atletico ahead, while Rodri pulled a goal back for the visitors before halftime.

But the second half saw Atletico pull away as Tiago and Koke scored three minutes apart before Alex Vidal netted a late consolation goal for Almeria shortly before the final whistle.

Atletico sits tied atop the league with the result, while Almeria has yet to win in its return to the top flight.

Levante 0, Real Sociedad 0

Valencia, Spain - Levante and Real Sociedad played out a 0-0 draw at Ciutat de Valencia on Saturday, marking Levante's second straight scoreless draw at home.

Both teams hit the crossbar in the second half, but neither was able to find the net as Levante remains stuck on two goals scored in four games this season.

Sociedad hit the bar first as Carlos Vela's rebound attempt from six yards struck the woodwork in the 67th minute.

Levante could have snatched three points in the final 10 minutes, but Papakouli Diop's curling free kick also hit the crossbar.
