Final Score: Toronto FC 1, San Jose 0

Toronto, ON ( - A first-half penalty kick from Jermain Defoe was enough as Toronto FC continued its good run of form with a 1-0 win over the San Jose Earthquakes at BMO Field on Saturday.

The result gives Toronto 10 points from its last four games, while San Jose entered the match having won three of its last four fixtures but failed to seriously threaten the net of TFC goalkeeper Joe Bendik.

A corner kick in the 26th minute resulted in the lone goal as San Jose's Alan Gordon pulled down Nick Hagglund at the back post, resulting in a spot kick.

Defoe stepped forward and sent goalkeeper Jon Busch the wrong way, depositing his seventh goal of the campaign inside the left post.

Luke Moore had a chance to extend TFC's lead shortly before halftime when he powered his way into the penalty area and drove a low shot on target that Busch kept out by getting down in time.

Hagglund almost scored in the 68th with a glancing header from a free kick that skipped just past the post, while San Jose's best chance came five minutes from time.

J.J. Koval entered the match as a substitute in the second half and he had a good look at goal with a volley from 10 yards that sailed wide of the left post.
