Final Score: Vancouver 1, Columbus 0

Columbus, OH ( - Erik Hurtado's first MLS goal held up as the winner on Saturday as Vancouver Whitecaps FC claimed its first win away from home with a 1-0 victory over the Columbus Crew at Crew Stadium.

Coming off a 3-2 result over the San Jose Earthquakes last weekend at BC Place, Vancouver had the better of the play in the opening 10 minutes.

Hurtado created the first good chance when he got free on the right wing and fired one on goal that had to be expertly parried away by Columbus goalkeeper Steve Clark.

The Whitecaps opened the scoring in the 37th minute as Hurtado did well to collect the ball off his chest, beat his mark on the turn and rip a left- footed, curling strike into the top left corner, leaving Clark with no chance for a save.

Columbus had the advantage in possession, but did little with it over the course of 90 minutes as the Crew managed just two shots on target. Vancouver's defense did well to limit the space for Columbus attacker Jairo Arrieta and Federico Higuain.

Omar Salgado, a former No, 1 overall selection who has missed significant time with an injury, came on in the 74th minute and had a chance to put it away for Vancouver as he went in alone with three minutes to play, but directed his chipped effort just wide of the far post.

The result sees the Whitecaps win two straight for the first time this season, while the Crew continue to struggle. Their winless streak now stands at seven consecutive matches.
