Pirlo inks new Juventus deal

Turin, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Juventus and Italy international midfielder Andrea Pirlo signed a new two-year contract with the Serie A champions on Wednesday, which will keep him at Juventus Stadium until 2016.

Pirlo, 35, joined the Old Lady in 2011 after leaving AC Milan and helped the club win three consecutive Serie A titles.

Last season, Pirlo played 43 games and scored six goals as Juventus won the league with a record 102 points. Overall, he has made 99 appearances for the Bianconeri, scoring 12 goals.

Italy manager Cesare Prandelli will be counting on his midfield maestro to guide the club through a difficult Group D against England, Costa Rica and Uruguay.

Pirlo has been capped 109 times for Italy, scoring 13 goals. The Italians open their Group D campaign on June 14 against England in Manaus.
