Maran sacked at Catania

Catania, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Catania announced Monday that it has sacked manager Rolando Maran for the second time this season following the club's defeat to Torino on Sunday.

The 50-year-old originally was dismissed in October and replaced by Luigi De Canio, but results did not improve for the Serie A club.

Maran returned to the Catania touchline on Jan. 15 but only managed one win from 13 matches of his second stint at the Stadio Angelo Massimino.

Catania is seven points adrift of safety with only six league matches to play. Academy coach Maurizio Pellegrino, who managed the club in Serie C between 2001 and 2003, will assume control of first-team responsibilities on an interim basis.
