Juve stunned by late Hellas equalizer

Verona, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Juventus was denied its 20th Serie A win of the season on Sunday in stoppage time as Hellas Verona substitute Juan Gomez scored the equalizer to help his team to a 2-2 home draw.

Juve looked to be well on its way another three points on Sunday as Carlos Tevez scored a pair of goals for the visitors in the opening 21 minutes to hand the Old Lady a 2-0 halftime lead.

But Luca Toni scored in the 52nd minute for Hellas to halve the deficit while Gomez stunned Juve with a goal deep into stoppage time to claim a point for his side.

The result leaves Juve nine points clear at the top of Serie A as second-place Roma was held to a 0-0 draw by Lazio on Sunday.

Tevez scored the opener inside of four minutes with Juve's first chance of the match as Hellas goalkeeper Rafael was only able to clear a shot from Kwadwo Asamoah as far as the Argentina international, who pounced on the loose ball 12 yards from goal and hammered it home.

The lead was doubled in the 21st minute with a simple move that saw Paul Pogba feed Tevez with a pass that was finished off from six yards, making it 2-0 to Juve.

Tevez squandered a good opportunity before the break after he was played through by Fernando Llorente as he failed to hit the target from a good position.

The hosts responded after the break and Toni made it 2-1 in the 52nd minute when he headed home Romulo's free kick.

Gomez entered the game as a substitute in the 86th minute and he didn't need a lot of time to make an impact, nodding a cross from Romulo past goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon just before the final whistle.

Roma remained within nine points of Juve despite its 0-0 draw with Lazio and Rudi Garcia's men will hope to make the most of their game in hand to close the gap on the defending champions.

Bologna collected three huge points on Sunday with a 2-1 comeback win over Torino that saw Jonathan Cristaldo score both goals to take Bologna four points clear of the relegation places.

Mid-table Genoa claimed a 1-0 win at relegation-battling Livorno thanks to a 10th-minute goal from Luca Antonelli, Daniele Gastaldello's 11th-minute strike was enough for Sampdoria to secure a 1-0 victory over Cagliari, Parma and last-place Catania played to a 0-0 draw, and in Sunday's final Serie A fixture, Walter Samuel's 48th-minute goal handed Inter Milan a 1-0 win over Sassuolo.
