Newcastle signs Remy on loan

Newcastle, England (Sports Network) - Newcastle revealed late Monday that the club has signed French striker Loic Remy on a season-long loan deal from QPR.

Remy almost joined the Magpies during the January transfer window but instead opted for a move to Loftus Road, where he went on to score six goals in his 14 appearances for QPR.

Upon QPR's relegation to the Championship, the 26-year-old revealed that he was keen to remain in England's top flight in a bid to make the France squad for the World Cup next summer.

"I'm very happy to be a Newcastle player," Remy told Newcastle's official website. "It will be a huge honor to play for such a big club. I was very flattered by the club's interest in me back in January and also very happy that they showed interest in me again this summer.

"The Premier League is the best league in the world and that's where I want to play. I am very motivated this year to get into the World Cup squad for my country. I know in order to do that I need to have a big season and a successful campaign with Newcastle United."
