Fulham's Riether receives three-game ban

London, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Fulham defender Sascha Riether has been handed a three-game ban by the Football Association after stomping on Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj.

The incident took place in the closing stages of United's 3-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday as Riether appeared to stomp on the leg of Januzaj when he was down on the ground near the corner flag.

It was not spotted by any of the match officials, but under a new initiative from the FA, a panel of three former elite-level referees will review video of certain incidents to determine if any punishment is warranted.

Riether is the first player to have been charged since the formation of the new panel.

"Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today (Wednesday), Fulham's Sascha Riether has been suspended for three matches with immediate effect after he accepted an FA charge for violent conduct," read a statement published on the FA website.

The 30-year-old Riether has started all 10 of Fulham's Premiership games this season, but he will now miss upcoming matches with Liverpool, Swansea City and West Ham.
