Rio Ave rolls over Estoril behind Koka's hat trick

Lisbon, Portugal (SportsNetwork.com) - Rio Ave climbed to the top of the Portuguese Liga after rolling to a 5-1 win over Estoril behind a hat trick from Ahmed Hassan Koka.

After finishing in the bottom half of the league last term Rio Ave won its opening match of the season, 2-0, over Setubal, and followed it up with a resounding win against Estoril as Koka scored all three of his goals in the opening hour.

He netted the first in the 38th before doubling his tally just before halftime, making it 2-0 to Rio Ave at the break.

Koka then completed his hat trick on the hour mark before Pedro Moreira scored two goals of his own for Rio Ave.

The lone reply from Estoril came in the 75th minute through Joao Pedro, whose goal did little to cushion the blow of such a heavy defeat.

Defending champions Benfica survived a tough test at Boavista by winning 1-0 on a 44th-minute goal from Eliseu, while FC Porto also ground out a narrow 1-0 win away from home as a goal from Jackson Martinez in the 40th was enough to escape Pacos Ferreira.

Bernard Mensah scored twice as Guimaraes toppled Penafiel, 3-0, Carlos Mane's goal in stoppage time helped Sporting Lisbon scrape past Arouca, 1-0, after Sporting's Nani missed a second-half penalty kick, while Maritimo used goals from Fransergio Barbosa and Ouwo Maazou to edge Academica, 2-1.

Setubal topped Gil Vicente, 2-0, Deyverson and Rodrigo Dantas netted first- half goals as Belenenses downed Nacional, 3-1, while on Monday, Moreirense and Braga battled to a 0-0 draw.
