NCAA Game Summary - Kansas State at TCU

(Wednesday, January 16th)

Final Score: (16) Kansas State 67, TCU 54

Fort Worth, TX (Sports Network) - Rodney McGruder scored 21 points to pace No. 16 Kansas State past TCU, 67-54, at the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.

Jordan Henriquez added eight points and 10 rebounds, while Shane Southwell donated seven points and six boards for the Wildcats (14-2, 3-0 Big 12), who won for the seventh consecutive time.

"Basically, we started off real slow and Coach called that first time out. He got into us and really got us going," said Kansas State guard Martavious Irving. "We came out taking it a little lightly. Once Coach got in our ear we started playing better. "

Adrick McKinney led TCU (9-8, 0-4) with 18 points and nine boards, while Kyan Anderson chipped in with 10 points in the loss. TCU has dropped four games in a row.

"That is a very experienced and well coached team, very worthy of their ranking. I thought we played probably as well as we could play for about the first three or four minutes, like most good teams that are matured, skilled, and understand their roles, said TCU coach Trent Johnson. "We had a couple breakdowns defensively and we had a couple of breakdowns offensively and they make you pay. The positives were we had some guys that went back into the game and continued to fight and continued to try to compete."

The home-standing Horn Frogs charged out of the gates with some long-range marksmanship. Consecutive treys by Anderson and Charles Hill Jr. gave TCU an 8-2 edge, but Kansas State responded and took a 13-10 lead on Will Spradling's 3-pointer.

Moments later, McGruder capped off a quick 9-0 burst with a short jumper for a 24-14 lead. TCU worked its way back within five at 26-21, but Irving and McGruder each drained a 3-pointer to give the visitors a 32-21 lead. The Wildcats made 5-of-10 treys in the half and took a 38-25 lead into the locker room.

TCU didn't put up much resistance in the second half, as Kansas State rolled on both ends of the floor. McGruder and Spradling drained 3-pointers to open up a 44-27 lead and the margin reached 20 points on another trey, this one from Irving for a 58-38 margin with just over 10 1/2 minutes to play.

Kansas State cruised to victory from there.
