Description: Suns guard Wes Johnson has scored more than 20 points in two straight games. He made 9-of-16 from the 3-point line in those contests.
Insight: Suns interim coach Lindsey Hunter wants to get a good look at Johnson so he has given him decent playing time since late February. Johnson mostly collected DNPs over the first three and a half months of the season but he is averaging 13.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.3 steals, 1.6 threes and 30 minutes in March.

Description: Suns coach Alvin Gentry has mentioned Wes Johnson by name in each of the last two days as a player he would like to get more playing time.
Insight: Johnson has only played 16 of Phoenix' 40 games this season and averaged just over 7 minutes per game in that time. The guard has been behind Jared Dudley, Shannon Brown and Michael Beasley on the depth chart all season. An increase in minutes for Johnson wouldn't be good for the fantasy values of those three players.

Description: Phoenix is expected to decline shooting guard Wes Johnson's option for next season according to Paul Coro of the Arizona Republic.
Insight: Johnson didn't see the court for a second Wednesday in the Suns' season opening loss to Golden State. His upside was high coming out of college in 2010 but so far Johnson has been nothing more than a role player in the NBA.

Description: Suns guard Wes Johnson's strong preseason continued with a 15-point effort Friday night against the Thunder.
Insight: He's averaging a team-high 14 ppg during the preseason and appears to have surpassed Shannon Brown as the team's best option at shooting guard. Johnson was a nonfactor during his time in Minnesota (7.7 ppg in 144 games) but he could be poised for a breakout year playing in Phoenix's fast-paced transition offense, a system he thrived under while playing his college ball at Syracuse University.

Description: Shooting guard Wes Johnson was sent to Phoenix Friday as part of a three-team trade between the Hornets, Timberwolves and Suns.
Insight: Johnson underachieved during his two-year stay in Minnesota (7.7 ppg, 2.9 rpg in 144 games). Don't expect him to show a whole lot of improvement with the Suns next season.

Description: Still only 85 to 90 percent healthy from a hamstring issue he's been dealing with during training camp, he has still managed to impress Kurt Rambis with his defense.
Insight: "I'm more impressed with how well Wes has performed at the other end," said Rambis. He is averaging 12 points in 21 minutes in the preseason and is a great late round pick in fantasy drafts. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Wesley Johnson joined Luke Ridnour, Michael Beasley, Kevin Love and Darko Milicic in the starting lineup for Monday's preseason game against the Lakers.
Insight: Johnson's status is up in the air as far as starting on opening night goes, but it likely depends on how he performs in the preseason. (RapidDraft.com)

Description: Johnson (hamstring) practiced on Saturday but then sat out the Timberwolves' scrimmage.
Insight: There is clearly no rush with their prized rookie as they will work him into the mix slowly. He is poised to contribute immediately and we will monitor him throughout the preseason to see how he progresses. (RapidDraft.com)

9/21/2010 11:04:00 AM
Description: The Minnesota Star Tribune reports that the hamstring injury that kept Johnson out of summer league is still troubling him.
Insight: Hamstring injuries can linger, but eventually Johnson will get on the court for the Timberwolves and start shooting. It's not a good sign that the injury is still hurting him as training camp approaches, but he may make a nice waiver wire pickup. (RapidDraft.com)
