Vandy tops UC Irvine in CWS; Texas eliminates Louisville

Omaha, NE (SportsNetwork.com) - Walker Buehler tossed 5 1/3 hitless innings out of the bullpen for Vanderbilt and the Commodores rallied past UC Irvine for a 6-4 win in the winner's bracket of the College World Series.

UC Irvine knocked Vanderbilt starter Tyler Beede out of the game by the fourth inning, but trailing 4-2 in the fifth, the Commodores struck for three runs to take the lead for good.

John Norwood drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly, and Buehler did the rest, allowing just two walks with seven strikeouts in a superb relief effort.

Norwood and Zander Wiel each knocked in two runs for Vanderbilt, which has several days off before playing again on Friday.

Monday's earlier contest was an elimination game between Texas and Louisville, and the Longhorns stayed alive with a 4-1 victory behind Parker French's solid start.

French allowed one run on four hits with three strikeouts and three walks over 7 1/3 frames for the Longhorns, who will play UC Irvine in another elimination game Wednesday.

Louisville starter Anthony Kidston gave up three runs -- two earned -- on six hits while striking out five over eight innings.

The Cardinals committed four errors in the loss.
