Carson, CA (Sports Network) - What a difference a week makes for the Los
Just one week after being trounced, 4-0, by Seattle Sounders FC, the Galaxy
responded with an emphatic 4-0 win over Chivas USA on Sunday in the third and
final edition of the Super Clasico this season.
Landon Donovan was instrumental in all four Galaxy goals, with Robbie Keane
providing the lone tally in the first half while Juninho scored twice and Omar
Gonzalez netted his first goal of the campaign after the break in a dominant
win for Bruce Arena's side, giving the club five wins from its last seven
The two sides split the opening two matches in the L.A. derby this season, but
Sunday's game was not much of a contest as the Galaxy controlled play from
start to finish.
Chivas goalkeeper Dan Kennedy was busy most of the night, and after making a
fine stop on Marcelo Sarvas, he was unable to keep out Keane's opening goal
after 27 minutes, which came after a nice pass from Donovan.
Kennedy made a fine reaction stop to deny a header from Donovan before the
break, but the Chivas goal came under fire again after halftime.
Sarvas fired a rocket from 25 yards that came back off the post, but Donovan
set up Juninho for a well-placed shot that was curled inside the right post
That duo hooked up again 10 minutes later to make it 3-0 as Donovan's chipped
ball from the left side of the area was finished off with a volley at the back
post by Juninho.
And if that wasn't enough, the Galaxy's night was capped off with Gonzalez
tallying his first goal since returning from major knee surgery with the
defender turning a header past Kennedy from Donovan's corner kick.
