Final Score: New York 5, Montreal 2
Harrison, NJ (Sports Network) - Thierry Henry and Red Bull New York have been
a different team in their last two matches.
Henry notched a hat trick and added an assist as Red Bull New York rolled to a
5-2 win over the expansion Montreal Impact on Saturday at Red Bull Arena.
New York (2-2-0) scored just one goal as it lost its first two matches, but in
the last two games, Henry has five goals and two assists to spark two straight
Major League Soccer wins.
The Red Bulls defeated the Colorado Rapids, 4-1, last week when both Henry and
Kenny Cooper scored a pair of goals.
The duo picked up where they left off against the Impact (0-3-1).
Henry scored once in the first half against Montreal, and had two goals and an
assist on Mehdi Ballouchy's goal after half. Cooper also added his fourth goal
of the season.
Montreal led twice in the opening half on goals from Sanna Nyassi in the 18th
minute and Justin Mapp in the 38th.
But Henry's first goal answered Nyassi's goal after 28 minutes and Cooper tied
the match for the second time in first-half injury time from the penalty spot.
Henry followed in the 56th, set up Ballouchy with a beautiful backheel in the
72nd, and capped his memorable performance and hat trick in the 89th minute on
an unassisted goal.
Rafael Marquez, who assisted on Henry's first goal, and Wilman Conde were huge
again, one week after the duo made their season debuts. Marquez did leave the
match at halftime, but Teemu Tainio replaced him and also played well.
New York visits the Columbus Crew on April 7 for its next match. Montreal will
visit Real Salt Lake on Wednesday in search of its first MLS win.
