Dorman, Rowe help Revs seize advantage against Sporting

Foxborough, MA ( - Second-half goals from Andy Dorman and Kelyn Rowe helped the New England Revolution to a 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City on Saturday in the first leg of their Eastern Conference semifinal series at Gillette Stadium.

The Revs entered the match with a scoreless streak of over 500 minutes against Sporting, but Dorman finally found the breakthrough in the 55th minute before Rowe added a second 12 minutes later.

However, Aurelien Collin pulled a crucial goal back for Sporting in the 69th to halve the deficit that Peter Vermes' side will face in the second leg, which takes place in Kansas City on Wednesday.

The best chance for either side in a tactical first half came in the 18th minute when a header from Chance Myers beat New England goalkeeper Matt Reis, only to be cleared off the goal line by Lee Nguyen.

It took 556 minutes, but New England finally found the net against Sporting in the 55th when a shot from Diego Fagundez was saved by Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen, only to be parried straight into Juan Agudelo, allowing Dorman to nudge the ball over the line from a yard out.

It was a scrappy goal for the Revs, but the hosts put together a nice build up in the 67th that culminated with Nguyen picking out Rowe inside the area. The young midfielder got to the ball and slid it inside the left post with a first-time effort.

The goal put the Revs in a great position ahead of the second leg, however the visitors were handed a lifeline two minutes later by Collin.

A failed clearance by the New England defense allowed Myers to fire a shot toward goal that took a deflection and fell to Collin at the back post, where he scored from a few yards.
