Description: Orioles relief pitcher Tommy Hunter will pitch for Class A Delmarva on Saturday and is expected to be activated by Baltimore in ahead of Sunday's game. Source: Brittany Ghiroli, MLB.com.
Insight: Hunter has been out since May 20 with a groin strain, but it will be interesting to see into what role the Orioles will slide their former closer. Zach Britton has been nearly unhittable since taking over the closers' role on May 15 while the right-handed Hunter allowed eight runs in six appearences before landing on the DL.

Description: Orioles closer Tommy Hunter will throw a bullpen session on Sunday.
Insight: Hunter 6.06 ERA and astronomical 1.84 WHIP might not be good enough to get his closer's job back. Chad Qualls save the first two games of the current series with Houston and has a 2.55 ERA and 1.189 WHIP.
5/22/2014 3:33:00 PM
Description: Orioles closer Tommy Hunter has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained groin.
Insight: This helps explain his 6.06 ERA and astronomical 1.84 WHIP. Darren O'Day (0.52 ERA, 0.981 WHIP) figures to take over the ninth inning role for the time being.

Description: Orioles closer Tommy Hunter blew a 1-0 lead Tuesday against the Tigers.
Insight: It was his second straight blown save. Hunter was one out away from closing out the win, but he allowed a three-run homer to Miguel Cabrera and a solo shot to Victor Martinez in succession. The 27-year-old has given up eight earned runs on 10 hits in his last 3 1/3 innings and now has a 6.60 ERA. Darren O'Day (0.60 ERA) is probably next in line for saves, though manager Buck Showalter may also consider Zach Britton (0.84 ERA) should he remove Hunter.

Description: As expected, Tommy Hunter will close for the Orioles in 2014. SOURCE: Brittany Ghiroli, MLB.com
Insight: We all expected this but manager Buck Showalter didn't make the official announcement until Monday. Hunter was used mostly as a setup man last season, recording a 6-5 record over 68 appearances. He's replacing Jim Johnson, who was traded to Oakland during the offseason.

Description: Orioles reliever Tommy Hunter nabbed his fourth save of the season Wednesday against the Rays.
Insight: Hunter tossed a clean ninth inning to close out a 4-2 win. With Jim Johnson struggling, manager Buck Showalter is going with a committee at closer, but if Hunter performs well he could see most of the chances. With about five weeks remaining in the season and the O's three games out of the second Wild Card spot, Showalter can't afford to mess around.

Description: Baltimore righthanded reliever Tommy Hunter is expected to be available for Tuesday's game against Washington after dealing with a bruised right hand.
Insight: Hunter (0-1, 1.86 ERA and .966 WHIP) has pitched well out of the pen this season, but as long as Jim Johnson is the closer, Hunter will only have value in leagues who use the hold category.
8/24/2012 8:30:00 PM
Description: Baltimore optioned righthander Tommy Hunter down to Double-A Bowie on Friday.
Insight: Hunter (4-8, 5.95 ERA) has been going back and forth between the majors and minors all season so this is hardly a surprise, especially after giving up eight runs on eight hits in his last outing Wednesday versus Texas. Expect Hunter to be back with the big club in September when the rosters expand.
7/18/2012 7:48:00 PM
Description: Righthander Tommy Hunter has been called up from Triple-A Norfolk. He'll start Wednesday night's game against the Twins.
Insight: It looks like Hunter will occupy the injured Jason Hammel's spot in the starting rotation for now. Hunter has been pretty mediocre in 15 appearances for the Orioles in 2012 (3-4, 6.11 ERA). Even if Hunter remains in the rotation for the next three or four weeks, it's unlikely that he'll become a reliable fantasy contributor.
6/14/2012 10:27:00 PM
Description: Baltimore righthander Tommy Hunter picked up his first win since April Thursday against Pittsburgh, but it wasn't pretty. Hunter allowed five runs on seven hits in six innings.
Insight: Hunter (3-3) last won on April 24 against Toronto. He's not worth owning, even in deep AL-only leagues.
6/9/2012 8:23:00 PM
Description: Baltimore righthander Tommy Hunter lasted seven innings Saturday against the Phillies, allowing three runs on eight hits. Hunter walked none and struck out two.
Insight: It was an improvement over his recent outings but still nothing to write home about. Hunter (2-3, 5.40 ERA) doesn't have much fantasy upside, though it does look like he has secured a spot in the rotation now that Jake Arrieta has been moved to the bullpen.
6/7/2012 1:55:00 PM
Description: Baltimore righthander Tommy Hunter is expected to start Saturday's game against Philadelphia. Hunter was sent down to Triple-A Norfolk at the end of last month.
Insight: Hunter (2-3, 5.59 ERA) is winless in his last six major league starts and has given up five runs or more in each of his past two appearances. Simply put, he hasn't made a very compelling case for himself this season. Don't bother adding Hunter if you see that he's available on the waiver wire.
5/14/2012 8:35:00 PM
Description: Tommy Hunter will draw the start Wednesday against New York.
Insight: This will be Hunter's second start since being recalled by Triple-A Norfolk last week. Hunter allowed four runs on five hits in six innings Thursday against Texas. Overall, Hunter is 2-2 with a 5.14 ERA in seven starts this season.
5/11/2012 12:38:00 PM
Description: Tommy Hunter struggled in his first start since being recalled from Triple-A Norfolk. Thursday, Hunter allowed five hits, four runs and one walk in six innings.
Insight: The one positive from this relatively medicore performance was that Hunter (2-2, 5.14 in seven starts) was able to record seven strikeouts against one of the better hitting teams in the league. It doesn't appear that Hunter has been scheduled for another start so expect him to be used as a long reliever going forward. His fantasy value at the moment is pretty minimal.
5/10/2012 9:13:00 PM
Description: Less than a week after being sent down to Triple-A, Tommy Hunter was called back up to majors. He started the second game of Baltimore's day/night doubleheader against the Rangers.
Insight: Thursday was only a spot start, so we're not sure exactly what Hunter's role will be with the Orioles going forward. But for now, at least he has a spot on the roster. Hunter absorbed Endy Chavez's spot after the Baltimore outfielder went down an intercostal strain.
5/7/2012 8:21:00 PM
Description: Tommy Hunter has been demoted to Triple-A Norfolk.
Insight: Hunter didn't fare particularly well Sunday against the Red Sox (4.1 IP, 8 H, 5 ERs) but he really hasn't pitched that poorly this season. In six starts he was 2-1 with a 5.00 ERA including a gem against Minnesota (7 IP, 6 H, 0 ER) in his first start of the year back on April 7th. He should be the first pitcher called up if and when one of the Orioles' other starters gets hurt.
3/26/2011 11:01:00 AM
Description: Hunter suffered what is apparently a fairly serious groin strain late this week and could miss the first month and a half of the season.
Insight: Losing Hunter isn't going to kill anyone's fantasy dreams, so let's just be thankful that the injury didn't happen a week earlier. Had it, the Rangers might have been motivated to put Neftali Feliz in the rotation. All indications are that they won't do so now. (RapidDraft.com)
3/25/2011 5:48:00 PM
Description: Tommy Hunter will miss at least six weeks with a groin injury.
Insight: Add in some rehab work and we likely won't see him starting in Texas until the end of May. He should be released in mixed leagues and in AL-Only leagues with small benches.
3/24/2011 5:43:00 PM
Description: Tommy Hunter left today's game with a strained groin.
SOURCE: JEFF WILSON
Insight: Not a good thing for a player who was awarded a rotation spot earlier in the day. We will follow up with more details later on. He can miss a start and still be ready for the start of the season.
3/14/2011 6:44:00 AM
Description: Tommy Hunter's poor spring continued yesterday. He allowed seven runs (four earned) in 3 2/3 innings.
Insight: His spring training ERA is close to 9.00. He will have a rotation spot for the start of the season but he has been out-pitched by Matt Harrison and Derek Holland so he needs to start the season off well.
