(Sports Network) - Mike Pelfrey hasn't won in more than a month. The Minnesota
right-hander gets back on the mound Saturday afternoon trying to end a five-
start winless stretch when the Twins resume a four-game series against the
Chicago White Sox.
Pelfrey, who is 0-3 in the aforementioned span, is coming off a no-decision
against Houston Sunday when he surrendered seven hits and a pair of runs in
five innings. He has just one victory in his last 14 starts (1-6). That came
July 6 at Toronto.
He's 0-1 with an 8.10 ERA in two career games against the White Sox.
Andre Rienzo makes his third major league appearance Saturday for the White
Sox. The 25-year-old right-hander has given up a collective five runs -- two
earned -- over his first two starts. That includes pitching six-plus innings
at Detroit on Sunday when he surrendered four hits and a pair of runs.
The Twins opened this series by sweeping a doubleheader yesterday.
Oswaldo Arcia scorched a go-ahead homer in the top of the 10th inning to help
the Twins to a 3-2 victory in the night contest.
Brian Duensing (6-1), the winning pitcher in the opener of the twin bill, also
earned the victory in the nightcap after spinning a 1-2-3 ninth. Glen Perkins
stranded a runner on third in the 10th to secure his 28th save of the season.
Josh Willingham tied the game with a solo blast in the eighth, while Chris
Herrmann also went deep for the Twins, who downed the White Sox 7-5 in the
opener behind a pair of homers, including a grand slam, from Justin Morneau.
"You don't win too many ballgames when you strike out that many times," Twins
manager Ron Gardenhire said. "The ball flies here. We put some good swings out
there, got enough runs. The bullpen did a great job. Starters did a great job
Alexei Ramirez smacked a solo homer in the fourth and Blake Tekotte tallied
his first career homer for the White Sox, who were coming off a three-game
sweep of the New York Yankees before dropping both games of the doubleheader.
Dylan Axelrod (4-9) yielded Arcia's leadoff homer in the 10th to absorb the
Minnesota has won eight of its 10 meetings with the White Sox this season.
