Pirates officially ink Liriano to one-year deal

Pittsburgh, PA (Sports Network) - The Pittsburgh Pirates announced Friday that the club has agreed to terms with left-handed free-agent pitcher Francisco Liriano on a one-year deal.

Liriano, 29, who was originally set to sign a two-year deal this past December, failed to do so because he didn't pass a physical due to a broken right humerus.

The new deal will have a vesting option for 2014.

Liriano reached the majors with the Twins in 2005 and played for them until being dealt to the Chicago White Sox last July. He finished the 2012 season with a combined 6-12 record and a 5.34 earned run average. Over the last two seasons, he's walked 162 batters.

For his career, Liriano is 53-54 with a 4.40 ERA in 168 games (141 starts).

According to early reports, the left-hander's original two-year deal was set for $14 million.
