HRs by Kratz and Stubbs help IL edge PCL at Triple-A All-Star Game
Portland, OR (Sports Network) - Two-run homers by Erik Kratz and Drew Stubbs helped the International League edge the Pacific Coast League, 6-5, at the Triple-A All-Star Game at PGE Park.
Esteban German smacked a two-run homer in the ninth inning and drove in four runs for the PCL.
Andrew Carpenter struck out the side in the second inning to get the victory, while Fernando Cabrera notched the save.
Yorman Bazardo was tagged with the loss after surrendering three hits and three runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Kratz and Reid Brignac hit back-to-back doubles with one out in the top of the third inning. Stubbs homered to left with two outs for the 3-0 cushion.
Brendan Katin homered to left-center in the bottom of the third, but the International League stretched its lead to 4-1 in the fifth. Austin Jackson tripled to lead off and scored on Justin Huber's sacrifice fly.
German singled in Matt Miller and Chris Robinson in the bottom of the fifth for a one-run difference again, but the PCL wasted a chance with runners at the corners when Alcides Escobar flied into a double play.
The IL tacked on two runs in the sixth. Seth Bynum singled with two outs before Kratz homered to left field.
German's two-out ground-rule double was wasted in the bottom of the seventh and Michael Ryan's pinch-hit two-bagger with one down in the home eighth was followed by strikeouts from Bryan LaHair and Eric Patterson as Nelson Figueroa escaped the trouble.
German homered to right field with two outs in the ninth, but Cabrera fanned Eric Young Jr. to end the game.
