Fort McMurray, AB (Sports Network) - Nick Taylor carded a 1-under 71 on Friday and maintained his lead through two rounds of the Syncrude Boreal Open.
Taylor, who tied for second last week at the Dakota Dunes Open, is 8-under-par 136 through 36 holes, one stroke ahead of Stuart Anderson, who shot 68 at windy Fort McMurray Golf Club.
"Last week was disappointing. I had a great chance and didn't get it done," said Taylor, who currently sits fourth on the Order of Merit. "Today it was tough to score out there. I made a lot of good four- or five-footers for par."
Darren Wallace (68), Jaco Ahlers (69), Jorge Fernandez-Valdes (67) and American David Dragoo (71) are tied for third at 6-under 138, while Fergal Rafferty (72), Tyler Aldridge (70), Chris Killmer (70) and Yohann Benson (72) share seventh at minus-5.
Taylor started on the back nine and played his outward nine at even-par. Around the turn, the former World Amateur No. 1 parred seven straight before notching a birdie at the eighth. He closed his bogey-free round with another par at the ninth.
"Wins are so crucial here, when you're playing well it's important to take advantage of it," said Taylor. "Hopefully I can do that tomorrow. I'm in the best position I can think of."
NOTES: Defending champion Cory Renfrew is tied for 11th place at 4-under- par 140 ... The first round was completed Friday after heavy rain forced a suspension of play on Thursday. This is the third straight tour event that has been hampered by rain.
