Colorado Springs, CO (SportsNetwork.com) - Quinn Kaehler threw three touchdown
passes to lead San Diego State to a 27-20 win over Air Force on Thursday.
The Aztecs (3-3, 2-0 MWC) entered the fourth quarter trailing 20-6, but scored
21 unanswered points to earn the win.
Kaehler, who finished 15-for-26 passing for 249 yards, got the scoring started
with a 20-yard touchdown pass to Donnel Pumphrey with 11:25 to play.
SDSU then forced an Air Force punt and found the end zone two plays later as
Kaehler connected with Ezell Ruffin for a 62-yard catch-and-run. The extra
point was blocked and it was a 20-19 game.
Following an Air Force three-and-out, Kaehler helped orchestrate a 13-play,
77-yard drive, capped off with Pumphrey's 10-yard TD plunge. The team turned
the two-point conversion for a 27-20 advantage.
Air Force was able to get into SDSU territory, but Nate Romine's pass on
fourth down fell incomplete.
Pumphrey finished with 17 carries for 117 yards and a touchdown, Ruffin caught
six passes for 108 yards and a score and Eric Judge caught a 44-yard touchdown
in the win.
Romine completed 5-of-11 passes for 111 yards and a touchdown and also had a
rushing score and Anthony LaCoste rushed for 109 yards on 22 carries for the
Falcons (1-6, 0-5).
SDSU struck with 21 seconds left in the first quarter as Kaehler connected
with Judge for a 44-yard touchdown.
Air Force then scored 20 straight points to take the lead. Romine capped a 9-
play, 75-yard trek with a 16-yard rushing score.
Will Conant added a 48-yarder in the closing seconds of the first half to give
the Falcons a 10-6 lead at the break.
Conant added a 52-yarder on the first drive of the second half, and Romine
connected with Sam Gagliano for a 71-yard touchdown with just under four
minutes left in the third to make it 20-6.
